Ingredients

Oh My Sweet Keto! seeks to use the most natural and if possible, organic ingredients available.

To reduce carbohydrates, alternative ingredients to traditional wheat flour and table sugar are becoming more readily available. The drawback is that these ingredients may take a little getting used to. Oh My Sweet Keto! seeks to make this transition easier. The list of effective ingredients is constantly changing. When we find something that works, we stick with it, but we are always open to making something better. Below is a list of low carb ingredients used in the Oh My Sweet Keto! kitchen.

Flour Blends

Rarely do we use just one flour ingredient for baked goods. A blend of nut flours, fibers, protein and binding agents that best mimic traditional wheat flour and keep carbohydrates to a minimum provide for better texture and produce satisfying treats.

  • Almond flour is used in most Oh My Sweet Keto! baked goods. Pecan flour and coconut flour are also used in a few select items.
  • Coconut Flour
  • Golden Flaxseed
  • Fibers: Oat and Bamboo Fibers are used in flour blends to help provide a lighter texture to baked goods.
  • Egg White Protein Powder is used as a binding agent.
  • Xanthan Gum is used for structure and binding in baked goods

Sweeteners

Naturally derived sweeteners are found in Oh My Sweet Keto! products. As with any food, some people have sensitivities more than others and that is certainly the case with sweeteners. Too much of these may cause some stomach discomfort – so, as they say, everything in moderation.

  • Organic Xylitol (sugar alcohol) tastes and measures very much like sugar (sucrose). It does not form crystals when cooked then cooled making it ideal for our creamy smooth chocolate ganache frosting. Xylitol has more calories than other “keto” sweeteners.
  • Erythritol (sugar alcohol) works well in cookies and cakes but has a cooling effect that sometimes does not work well in a particular recipe, though one can get used to it. Erythritol is considered a zero-calorie sweetener. It is about 70% as sweet as sucrose (table sugar) and will often be found mixed with stevia or monk fruit extracts to increase sweetness.
  • Allulose is a relatively new sweetener in the Keto world. It is classified as a rare sugar and naturally occurs in figs, raisins, and other foods. It is virtually calorie free and is reported to have less side effects than sugar alcohols. It tastes most like sugar. In baking, it tends to brown faster than sugar. It is about 70% as sweet as table sugar (sucrose).
  • Stevia Leaf Extract and Monk Fruit Extract are extracted from the stevia plant and from monk fruit respectively. They are highly concentrated sweeteners which are often blended with other sweeteners to increase sweetness.
  • Inulin is a newcomer to Oh My Sweet Keto! products. It is a fiber with a slightly sweet taste that helps reduce the cooling effect of erythritol.

Flavor Extracts A variety of oils and flavor extracts are used to bump up the flavor of goodies as well as to keep carbohydrates down. For example, an apple extract provides great apple flavor without adding apples.

Dairy Butter and heavy cream are the two big ingredients found in almost all items.

Nut Milks Almond and Macadamia Nut milks

Oils Avocado Oil has become Oh My Sweet Keto's favorite to use in recipes.
